To transfer a mobile number to a new provider in the UK, request a Porting Authorisation Code (PAC) from your current provider by texting "PAC" to 65075. This code is valid for 30 days and must be given to your new provider, who will use it to transfer your number to their network, a process that typically takes a few working days.

Here are the steps to transfer your mobile number:

1.Request your PAC code:

  • Text the word "PAC" to 65075 from the mobile number you wish to keep.

  • You can also request it by logging into your account on your provider's website or app, or by calling their customer support line.

  • Your PAC code will be sent to you via text, and it's valid for 30 days.

2. Contact your new provider:

  • Once you have your PAC, provide it to your new network provider.

  • You can usually do this when you order a new SIM card and plan, or you can start the process by filling out a form on their website.

3. Activate the new SIM:

  • Your new provider will use your PAC code to transfer your old number to your new SIM card.

  • Once you receive your new SIM, you'll need to activate it.

4. Check your number:

  • Your number should transfer within a day or two, although it can take up to three working days.

  • Check that the correct number is now active on your new SIM.

Important considerations:

  • Contract terms:
    If you are still under contract with your current provider, you may be subject to early termination fees. You can find out how much you might be charged by texting "INFO" to 85075.

  • iPhone users:
    If you have an iPhone, you may need to update the 'My Number' setting in your device's settings after your number has transferred.

  • Multiple numbers:
    The "Text-to-Switch" service might not work if you have multiple numbers on your account or an Apple Watch on a Pay Monthly plan. In such cases, you will need to contact your current provider directly.
